As the Union President you are:

  • Focused on the academic experience, as the main purpose for students here at Christ Church.

  • The Student Governor of Canterbury Christ Church University.

  • A trustee of Christ Church Students’ Union as a charity.

  • A director of Christ Church Students’ Union as a company.

  • Lead liaison with the University.

  • You will be paid £22,662 or more for the year (plus 17.5% employer pension contribution). 

 

As the Union President you will:

  • Have an unparalleled opportunity to create positive change for students at the highest levels of the University, building networks and critically challenging the University’s decisions.

  • Lead on campaigns that revolve directly around education and academic experience.

  • Further the educational advancement of students within their studies and in matters related to their studies, individually and collectively.

  • Represent and enhance student experiences with their courses and modes of study across all faculties, whilst including elements which have an impact on the academic experience such as learning resources, learning support, learning and teaching policies, and quality and standards processes.

  • Represent the student voice on a number of University committees, including but not limited to Academic Board, Education and Student Experience Committee, and the Quality Monitoring and Review sub-committee.

  • Be responsible for the Academic Representation system and Student Reps across the University within all courses, school reps, faculty reps and committee reps.

  • Be responsible for the engagement of academic groups (e.g. postgraduates, part-time students, mature students).

  • Be the lead officer for Christ Church Students’ Union at the Tunbridge Wells campus.

 

As the Union President you might:

  • Campaign on issues that although are not academic in nature, affect students as students.

  • Run to become Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Students’ Union

  • Pro-actively represent us at national level for national campaigns and bodies, such as NUS.

  • Work with the President (Campaigns and Societies) to support academic and course-based societies.

 

As an elected officer you will:

  • Ensure your work is influenced by student needs and opinion.

  • Represent and engage with students of all types of study at all parts of campuses.

  • Work and support your team of fellow Presidents and Union Council Officers.

  • Be ready and willing to accept actions from Union Council and engage positively in the scrutiny process.

  • Plan a comprehensive programme of student engagement activities at the beginning of your term in office.

  • Work to deliver the Students’ Union’s strategic objectives, and contribute to the promotion of the vision, mission, and ambition, and share the Union’s values.

  • Engage in debate with team colleagues, holding each other to account and setting the Students’ Union’s priorities. 

  • Run campaigns alongside your fellow Officers, pushing for change on a range of issues affecting students. 

  • Ensure the Union is run sustainably, championing ethical and sustainable practices within the community.
