Over 500 Christ Church students cast their vote in a referendum this week to determine whether CCSU should continue to be affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS).
CCSU is committed to ensuring that all democratic processes are conducted in a fair and transparent way and to the set rules. Unfortunately, an incident has been drawn to our attention that constitutes a clear and significant breach of our rules. The Deputy Returning Officer and Returning Officer consider this breach enough to render the referendum result null and void.
We are conducting an investigation into the breach and will provide further detail at the earliest possible opportunity. Votes have not been counted as the referendum result has been declared invalid.
This referendum was called by Union Council, and CCSU intends to honour Union Council’s wishes and hold a valid referendum. As such, the referendum will be run again before the end of this academic year. The exact schedule will be announced in due course.
